五彩龍鳳紋盌始燒於康熙，至晚清歷朝均有沿襲。此類盌為後宮用瓷，在《國朝宮史》記載中由皇太後到各級妃嬪所用瓷器均有明確規定，並說明由皇太後到「常在」都可以用龍紋。五彩龍鳳紋盌正是「常在」的規定用瓷。
