象牙嵌黃蛇紋石胡人獻寶如意，富麗華貴，應屬宮造或進貢帝王之物。中國歷史中，象牙少有著述，與上古文化或祭祀傳統亦無直接關聯，相異於玉、竹等常見材質。如意傳統上用作祝意吉祥，壹說其由來為佛教高僧抓背用搔杖，後得道教采用，演變為靈芝造形，亦逐漸喪失其原始用途，成為祝願之物。
