犀角屬於名貴藥材，性寒，具有清熱解毒之功效。《神農本草經》“主百毒蟲註，久服輕身”，“犀角出南郡，上價八千，中三千，下壹千”。以犀角雕刻成工藝品久已有之，據文獻記載，經唐宋不斷發展，至明進入盛期。明末至康雍乾盛世二百年間是中國犀角雕刻的黃金時代，創造出大量精美的犀角雕刻藝術品，是明清工藝美術品重要的組成部分之壹。此件拍品呈深棕色，器口橢圓形，外壁透雕螭龍紋， 渾重蒼黝，材質第壹，工藝次二，年代又次之，而這只犀角杯，三者兼備且各占鰲頭，乃不可多得之宮廷犀角珍品。
