十六、十七世紀之際，大量日本蒔繪輸入中國，盛行於文人之間。雍正時期，宮廷造辦處漆作試作蒔繪，稱為「洋漆」。雍正帝傾愛黑漆，此座屏風即為當朝制描金黑漆作。漆器始於中國，盛行於日本，且發展出多式技法風格，運用金漆裝飾之蒔繪尤得清宮青睞，可見類似金漆技法用於盒匣、箱櫃、屏風等。
